Edge of an Age was written by Porter Deacon that symbolizes what the transgender community goes through when coming out in a close-minded society. Tom Kipling, our main character, a transgender male came out in high school and faced hatred from his peers. Those peers followed him to Temple University where he goes with his best friend Elizabeth. The story unfolds to reveal that true friendship is more important than being afraid to be yourself. Shooting this film was important to the crew to symbolize how important it is to tell transgender community stories. Written by a member of the community themselves, this story has meaning and truth behind it, which was also important for the casting director to pick the perfect Tom. Tom is played by Achilles Mulkey, a transgender male, who perfectly captures the frustration, excitement, and heartbreak in this film. It was important to the crew to have a diverse cast so that people could watch the film and feel represented.
Shooting days were long and hard with some minor bumps in the road but after working through the small stuff the entire cast and crew became a family. Snow storms and rain delays set us back quite a bit, however we found creative ways to work around it. Having actors coming from New York, New Jersey, and Maryland was quite tricky as well but we manage to get all in person filming done in 2 days! Some scenes had to be moved virtually due to time constraints but the acting and story still shown through. We are so excited for our viewers, family, and friends to view Edge of an Age coming out May 2nd, 2022!
